What makes a good estimate

  1. 1Break the work into lines

Separate labor, materials and each stage. Customers trust an estimate they can follow line by line.

  2. 2How long the price is valid

Material costs change. A "valid until" date tells the customer when to decide.

  3. 3What isn't included

Put exclusions in the notes (permits, hauling, extra revisions) so there are no surprises later.

  4. 4Deposit and payment terms

If you need a deposit before starting, say how much and when the rest is due.

  5. 5A way to say yes

Ask the customer to sign or reply to approve, and keep a copy of what they approved.

Questions and answers

Estimate or quote, which should I call it?

Both work. In some trades "quote" is the usual word. In PaperPaid each business picks the word it uses everywhere.

Can my customer approve it online?

Not from this free template, which is for printing. In PaperPaid, customers approve and sign estimates from their phone and you're emailed right away.

Is anything saved?

No. The template keeps nothing; closing the page forgets it.
